Trophies/Achievements Done the Right Way

It’s human nature to love the feeling of accomplishment or of obtaining something that is desirable. For every task that a person does, there is an expectation of obtaining something in return, be it tangible or not. This generation more then ever, just about every video game has assimilated into the notion of having achievements/trophies tied into every facet of the experience they provide. As we progress through a game, either in single player or multiplayer, we just love the sound of the notification that pops up detailing what task we have completed. We take both joy and pride in the fact that we have some way of displaying our devotion to playing a specific game, or something to show how much of a gamer we are compared to others anywhere. But are achievements/trophies made to really give us satisfaction for playing through a game, or intentionally designed to be insanely difficult and push us to our boiling point?
